The City of Madison was named for the 4th president of the U.S., James Madison. April is the City of Madison's "birthday month". On April 7, 1856, Madison's charter as a city went into effect. To celebrate the 160th anniversary, Dolley Madison (aka Jessica Michna), President James Madison's widow, will be at the Monona Public Library on Sunday April 10th at 2 pm as the last program in the 2015-2016 Monona History Club series.
If you have seen Jessica Michna perform one of her other historical women impersonations (Eleanore Roosevelt, Mary Todd Lincoln, Abigail Adams) you know how talented she is.
Join us for a short HBGHS annual meeting at 1:45 and then stay for an hour-long history lesson from the point of view of Dolley Madison, who created the role of “First Lady” during her husband’s term in office , 1809-1817.
