Restoring the Dean House
Annual Meeting, Sunday May 6th

The HBGHS annual meeting will take place at 1:30 at the Dean House on Sunday May 6th.

The program at 2 p.m. will feature Robin Carley talking about how he created the beautiful and intricate handrail and balusters for the curving stairway in the Dean House in 1988. He has gone on to have a very successful career as Carley,Wood Associates, specializing in high end millwork, historic restoration, curved woodwork and carved architectural details. He will tell us how the Dean House staircase project played a role in the early days of his business.

We will also look at slides of the Dean House as it was being restored in the 1970s. We have invited people who worked on the restoration in those years to be our special guests and are looking forward to hearing their stories. If you worked on the Dean House and we forgot to send you a special invitation we apologize and hope that you will come and join in on the discussion of the transformation from a run-down golf course club house to the lovely Victorian farm house that it once was and is again.

4th Annual Garage Sale May 18 & 19

Our participation in the Monona City-Wide Garage Sale has gotten bigger and better every year. We have already started to collect items for this year but we can always use more. The only restrictions on donations are -- no clothing, shoes, electronics and large pieces of furniture. So, while you are doing your Spring house cleaning -- keep HBGHS in mind.

You can drop off your items on the Back Porch of the Dean House begining Monday May 14th. If you need help getting your items to the Dean House or have questions call Judith Bodden 222-6831.

We will need volunteers at the Dean House on Thursday to price and arrange items for the sale and salespeople on Friday and Saturday. If you can help, just drop in and offer your services.

This will be the 36th year of Back Porch Concerts. Come join your friends on the Monona Golf Course lawn behind the Dean House. Bring lawn chairs or blanket and enjoy the wonderful music. Popcorn and soda/water will be for sale.
